Fall Colors Forum Rally
At the Penn Wood Airstream Park
999 Kindle Road, Limestone, PA16234

Do not follow GPS to this address – Follow the directions on Penn Wood Web Site

Thursday October 1 to Sunday October 4, 2009

Hosted by forum members Dave Fagan (pintoman) Dave, Martin (bike 2 eat), and Carl Deitrich (deitz645)

Come discover Penn Wood Airstream Park in Limestone, Pennsylvania.

The campground is nestled in the heart of Western Pennsylvania’s recreational area. Getting to Penn Wood is a short four mile drive south of Interstate 80 (exit 64) on PA Route 66 south.

So why not stop by and kick back with other forum members and enjoy a long weekend in the scenic Pennsylvania hills. Membership in WBCCI is not required for the rally or any other stay at Penn Wood. The rally dates coincide with the tail end of the annual Clarion County Autumn Leaf Festival (There is no WBCCI Autumn Leaf Rally in 2009)

We plan on an informal long weekend rally. We will have a trailer open “house” (for those wishing to participate) and a pot luck dinner Saturday evening. Weather permitting we will have a bon fire every evening and a great time all weekend.

The campground can guarantee 30 amp electric, water, sewer, digital cable, and WIFI internet connection (in the rally field) for the first 31 trailers to sign up. Some sites have concrete wheel pads and patios. Beyond 31 trailers we can guarantee 30 amp electric hookups, water, and digital cable for an additional 7 trailers (there are dump stations within the campground). There are hard wired Internet connections in the office if needed. All participants will have full use of all the campground facilities and amenities. Cost is 20.00 / night payable by cash or personal check. To reserve your site please sign up on the forum. Propane fills are also available at the campground.

We hope to see many of you there.

Come to where it all began for the WDCU Installation Rally. Come to celebrate the installation of Star Grover to president and also for the 10th Anniversary of the Washington, DC Unit. 10 years ago this fall was the first installation when the WDCU received it provisional charter.
Please call Appalachian RV Resort to make your reservation directly and then please (very important but I am saying please) email Harley Muse and Linda Moore to let us know you are coming. Tell the campground that you are with the Airstream group. The contact information for the campground and also our email addresses are above. Please include the following information in your email.
Name -
How many in your trailer -
WBCCI# -
Trailer length -
Contact number to be reached –
There are 40 sites set aside for us but only 25% have been filled and paid for. September 15 is the day that all unpaid sites have to be turned back to the campground. They are already turning people away so if you don’t make your reservation before then there may not be a site available for you. The camping fee is $35 per night for full hookups. The rally schedule and the rally/kitty fee have not been determined as yet but will be by Friday September 15. For your planning, the rally/kitty fee will be no more than $35 per trailer. If you have any questions please email Linda lindamoorenh@yahoo.com or Harley foxdwn@aol.com.
Again, it is important that if you plan on attending that you make your reservation as soon as possible.
See ya there!
Linda Moore

Hello Everyone,
Only one more week left before the 2009 Installation Rally and the WDCU’s anniversary. I forgot that I needed to ask you all when you would be arriving. Please let me know if you will be coming in on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. I know some of them but not all. There are 32 signed up so it will be a good time.
The kitty fee for this rally will be $25 per trailer with more than 1 person and $13 will only 1 person.
Check in time is 3pm. I have negotiated with the campground that as long as Harley or myself are there to bring you in, they will waive the fee. BUT to be on the safe side, please DO NOT arrive any earlier than noon on Thursday the 17th.

Things to do in the area follows.

Things To Do In Berks & Schuylkill Counties - Part 1

Mountain Springs Rodeo – Unfortunately there is no rodeo scheduled for the weekend you will be here. There is however a demolition derby that Saturday if you are into that kind of thing.

Roadside America – This is pretty much right across I-78 from the campground where you all will be staying. It is the greatest known miniature village. It is a HUGE train layout that the kids (and adults) can enjoy. There are lots of buttons to push that make it even more fun.

Cabela’s – Everybody knows about Cabela’s, right? Well there’s one about 5-10 minutes east of the campground just outside of Hamburg, PA.

Yeungling Brewery – Is just up PA route 61 in Pottsville, PA. They have tours and a rathskeller to sample their fine beverages. Unfortunately they don’t sell any of their product there but you can get some here…

Windsor Distributing Company800 South 4th Street, Hamburg, PA 19526 (610) 562-2474 – Just remember that in PA wine and liquors can only be purchased in a “state store” and beer can only be purchases by the case at a distributor or by the 6-pack in a bar. This is the perfect place to stock up on your favorite Yeungling products, including Lord Chesterfield AleJ.

Reading Beer – There is also another brewery in Reading. Their Saturday tours are by appointment only.

Grimes Airport, Bethel, PA. – Is just a little west of Shartlesville on I-78. It is a grass strip that is home to the Golden Age Air Museum. They have quite a few old airplanes and have bi-plane rides on the weekends, weather permitting.

Mid-Atlantic Air Museum – Is housed in at the Reading Airport on PA Route 183 and is about a 30 minute drive from the campground. They have a number of WWII aircraft on static display, most of which still fly.

The West Hamburg Hotel279 West State Street, Hamburg, Pa(610) 562-3777 - Or “The Westy” to us locals, is a nice tavern with a full menu and is a popular watering hole. Their Buffalo wings and baked mozzarella (baked motz) are great.

Hamburg Diner – Right down the street from The Westy – 210 State Street, Hamburg, PA(610) 562-0422 - If you like “greasy spoon” diners, this is the place for you. They have great breakfasts

The Port Clinton Hotel – This is another tavern offering a full menu and is a local favorite.

Haag’s Hotel – Is in Shartlesville and has been serving Pennsylvania Dutch family style dinners since 1915.

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary – The world’s largest sanctuary for birds of prey. There are 8 miles of hiking trails and is a beautiful vista from which to see the surrounding countryside.

Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine – In Ashland, PA, is in the heart of the Pennsylvania Anthracite Coal Regions. It is about an hour from the campground and you can tour the coal mine to see how coal was mined in days gone by. You can also take a ride on a narrow gauge steam locomotive.
