Giddyup and we're off for the third annual
CA Streamers Fall Rally 2009

Rivernook Rides Again!

at Rivernook Campground in Kernville CA
October 16 - 18, 2009.

We all had such a good time in Kernville in October 2008,
we're ready to sign up again for next year.

So it's the same drill...
you call yourself and make your own reservations.
Stay as long as you want and select whatever site is still open.
We usually try to go for the 400 numbered sites first but they are all good.

The scoop:
Rivernook Campground
14001 Sierra Way
Kernville CA 93238
(760) 376-2705

This year's theme is Western
so c'mon down cowgirls, cowboys, in-laws and outlaws,
bar floozies and sheriffs, horses, cattle, and *um* donkeys...
well you get the idea.
Yee haw.

The only scheduled event is the potluck Saturday night 6-ish
(bring whatever you want - no lists needed)
preceded of course by the cocktail hour
and the strutting of the finery
around 5-ish.

Friday night happy hour is pretty much guaranteed.
And of course spontaneous fishing, shopping, salooning, airport, & dining field trips.
There is even a golf course close by.
Watch the white board at BamCamp for updates.

It's a casual and friendly group. No rules except relax and have fun.
Kids and pets (and everyone else) are always welcome.
Hope to see you there!

Happy trails to you (sing it with me)
until we meet agaaaain!

-Bam

Pumpkin Chunkin Rally
Estancia NM

Estancia is a small rural town of 750 smack dab in the geographic center of New Mexico about an hour from Albuquerque or Santa Fe. Pumkin Chunkin is a annual event which has gained national recognition. Once a year in the fall pumkin chunkin madness infects the town and devices of all descriptions from medievel trebuchets to semi truck size compressed air cannons subject pumpkins to taking flight for distances approaching a mile. Estancia's past includes such not exactly historically significant claims to fame as the site of the last public hanging in New Mexico and many films such as Convoy, Wild Hogs and Astronaut Farmer.

The Rally schedule is still evolving but will include: optional mini-caravan as part of the Pumkin Chunkin parade through town on Saturday, pumpkin chunkin viewing, vendors and live music.

There are 2 excellent restaurants in Estancia. Nearby are the historic towns of Willard, Mountainair, Punta de Agua, Manzano Torreon and Tajique.

If you are coming from the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque or want to spend more time in the area there are some excellent campgrounds n the nearby Manzano Mountains and BLM land.

This will be dry camping. This is a joint rally of the WBCCI New Mexico and 4 Corners Units.

Pumkin Chunkin has it's own facebook page listed as "Estancia Pumkinfest"
A Pumkin Chunkin schedule is listed.

The rally site will be at the west entrance of the Torrance County Fairgrounds in Estancia. Directions: from the intersection on SR 55 and SR 41 proceed west 0.4 mile to the intersection of S 10th St and SR 55. Proceed north past the ball field on the east. The entrance is located between the East Torrance Water Conservation District building and Head Start. The entrance is not marked and set back. I will be set up late Friday morning.

Rally activities include:
Friday- set up, hang out, campfire, pot luck, horseshoes
Saturday- optional caravan/parade (bring candy to throw)
Pumkin Chunkin 1 mi west of town
Dinner at La Bella Notte Restaurant
Sunday- Potluck breakfast
Day trip to Gran Quivira Pueblo Ruins National Monument (or group choice)

Rally fee $25

As of 10/9 William Merriman, Dan and Toby Friedman, Jack & Joanne Palmer, Sue and Artie McDonald, and Tom and Barbara Stallings, Gen Dissarray, Sandi Pasquale, Howie Effner, Alk4Glu, and Francis Arnould and yours truly are planning on attending. Barbara Johnston is a definite maybe.

Non WBCCI members are welcome

This is a self-service, very loosely defined rally for the weekend of October 16-17-18, 2009. Depending on how many attend there's a possibility of getting together for a meal on Friday (evening), Saturday (morning or noon) or Sunday (morning). The only planned event at this time is attending the Antsy McClain and Trailer Park Troubadours show held on Saturday night, October 17, at the John Hardin High School Performing Arts Center in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Tickets prices are $20 each (for the show only) or $30 each (including a special Guatemalan dinner before the show). This show is a fund-raising program for Living Waters for Guatemala sponsored by the Elizabethtown Rotary Foundation. Ticket information is available from Bob Swope, Rotary member, at bob.swope@kvnet.org

We are staying at Elizabethtown Crossroads Campground (formerly a KOA I think). Their web site is http://www.elizabethtowncrossroadscampgroundky.com/ The campground has bluegrass pickin' party on Friday Night so bring your instruments if you are so inclined.

Information about the John Hardin High School Performing Arts Center can be found at http://www.thepac.net/ However, tickets for the show are not available through this web site. See the email address shown above for ticket information.

Other things to do in the area:

Elizabethtown Infromation www.touretown.com

There's a great, privately owned, Coca-Cola museum in Elizabethtown http://www.schmidtmuseum.com/main.asp

Glendale Crossing Festival www.historicglendale.com

We're planning to visit The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green Kentucky www.corvettemuseum.com when driving to Elizabethtown from the south

Fort Knox is not open to visitors but there is a museum on the gounds. I think the museum centers on General Patton http://www.knox.army.mil/PattonMuseum/
