Happy New Year happy campers!
Hard to believe that 2010 is already upon us.
And that tickets for Burning Man Metropolis 2010 go on sale next week.
There has been a recent flurry of back channel e-mails and PM's about another Airstream excursion to Burning Man this year.
Thoughts of a "Trailer Park" theme camp have been tossed around...
a loosely organized group of Airstreamers camping together on the Playa.
Possibly retro themed with cool martinis etc. and perhaps a little "trailer trash" thrown in.
Lots of potential for camp (and personal) decoration.
This is not the thread for discussing the pros and cons of the Burning Man Festival.
Jump in if you have an interest in possibly/actually attending.
Please visit The Burning Man Project :: Welcome Home for loads of info about what Burning Man is and how to prepare for it.
It is some serious boondocking and not the right event for everyone.
We've had some great times these last few years!
So....any interest in another Airstream group rally at Black Rock?
I'm in. I think a theme camp would be fun. Also, a lot of work. We'll probably need a dedicated core of folks who are willing to handle the hosting duties, etc. The past couple of years, we've had a number of people have to cancel, or decide to camp elsewhere. We'll have to have people who can fill in for those who can't make it. Who's in??
I'm going to start assembling my costume attire immediately.
Did you say '50's theme?
I'm thinking Ed Norton by day, Thurston Howell III by the cocktail hour.
Of course, that has been known to be 9 AM.

We can be an "official" theme camp...in which case we need to actually choose a theme and apply.
Perry has volunteered to do the paperwork if we decide to do that. (Is that still correct?)
We would need to provide something for the community at large...
like some kind of service or entertainment or a bar or something else.
And of course decorate and "theme up" our camp.
It might be fun.
Or we could just all meet up at a certain location like we did last year.
I think the problem last year was that the kind folks who got there early and volunteered to save our spots
tried to save sites for everyone and we ended up with too much empty space.
There are always cancellations and changes of plans at any rally and we did have some no shows.
If we do that again I think we should save a much smaller space and have it first come first serve.
Late comers can just camp near by.
I'm in. Will try to get a copy of the theme camp application formology to check out soon. We'll need a lot of folks to do a little tiny bit so nobody gets totally burned out, I saw that done to some neighbor friends of mine in another camp last year. I assume most everybody is full time busy so not too many will have too much time to plot anything elaborate, but YEAYYY only 8 months left!
20 streams would probably be a good number to start with.
A full time bar requires lots and lots of cases of whatever, and also lots and lots more waste to haul out, I was watching my favorite Party Nak..camp on Esplande trying to load up their waste pile, yikes! or that maybe a reason to buy that dump truck I've got my eye on..
Food requires a Nevada Health department inspection.
A community generator might be nice for us without the modern quietus generators, unless it develops a choking cough of diesel smoke like I saw at one camp, choked out everybody down wind, was nasty.
Hope to encourage most everyone to volunteer a shift at something, that gives you a great sense of ownership of the event. Check out the Volunteer sheet at the BurningMan site.

Richard, your services were missed! Hope we'll see a lot of our folks that couldn't make it last year. And lots of new ones too, I noticed a lot of singular Airstreams on playa last year.

If the theme camp does not materialize I recommend as an alternative that we meet at the Desert Rose and caravan in on opening day (without any advance land grab team.)
We would then take just the amount of space for the initial group with late comers having to squeeze in what space can be found. I will not be coming in early this year. Best of Luck with your theme camp efforts.

This sounds like a blast. I'm new to the forum -- husband has handled the forum. But it is sounding so much fun! For the theme, how about trailer park trash -- women that includes sponge rollers and house robes with mascara to our knees, men in wife beaters and boxers, clothes lines, bug zappers during the day. And GLAM at night. Us, Airstreamers as the snobby sort were reported to be.
Oh you want us to be the "camp classey" then, dress up a little more than most of the playa does. Sounds like our normal camp, except for the tuxedo I remember a prior poster wearing one night. And tuto tuesdays.

Charley, we missed you on the Arterie tour! I got to ride on one of the mutant vehicles I had put a license on at the DMV, I found out that the upstairs was like at least 10 or 15 degrees cooler than at the playa surface. Almost like air conditioning. Hmmmm, we need a two story Mutant, any takers?

This will be my 6th Burning Man - but would be my first in an Airstream (always did the tent thing previously).... how does an Airstream handle the heat? Or is an generator & AC mandatory?
I actually wouldn't expect to spend much time in our Tin Pickle during the day - but sleeping in until 10 is really nice when you don't get in until 4 am :-)...
Now to figure out how to get the Art Car there as well... hmmmm.
